Frontier Update

A quick update to keep everyone aware of the status of Frontier.

We're meeting this weekend to finalize the music for the 2011 show. We've got most of the choices made and just need to fine tune it a bit.

I'll be announcing the show title and music after the DCA Championships this weekend in Rochester, NY.

We're planning the Open House for late November so keep a watch here, the corps webpage, the FPAA website, our various Twitter feeds (follow them: Frontier and FPAA).

We're still accepting applications for staff and techs so go to the Frontier site and fill out the form or just send an email.

If you want to perform, by all means let us know. You can do that at the Frontier website also.

If you want to help out behind the scenes, volunteer. It's volunteers that make a corps successful. Again, the Frontier website is the place.

That's about all for tonight. Thanks for reading and we hope to see you in the corps.

It's time...

It's time to start looking at the possibility of putting the Frontier Drum and Bugle Corps back out on the field with the goal of competing in DCA, DCI all-age and SDCA competitions.

What that means is a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment from all participants out there - be they staff, volunteer support, or performers. It won't be easy but it will be rewarding. In the course of the season, you'll question our collective sanity more than a few times (I sure did) but you'll have more memories and friends beside you than you ever thought you could have.

We want all folks that want to be involved in the activity, be they newcomers or alumni, to experience the Frontier family, the cameraderie and the feeling of work well done that comes when a plan comes together. If you marched Frontier in the past and left for any reason whatsoever, give it some thought if you still feel the pangs to perform when you see a half-time show or hear a band or corps.

The audiences may not always be large but they always appreciate the corps performance. That's guaranteed.

Anyway, let us know by a response to this post (it'll be open) and let your friends know it's time to come home.

Name Game

Hey, why did Shawn's Name Game get closed???

The objective is simple: for the name listed you must come up with another name that starts with the first letter of the last name. For example

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First Post: Jim Nabors
Next Post: Newt Gingrich
Next Post: George Washington
And so on and so on.......
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The names can be actors, politicians, characters or musicians

I'll start this off:

Oprah Winfrey

Announcing: A New Ensemble

The Frontier Performing Arts Association would like to announce the introduction of a new Corps in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

For 2010, the corps will be joining the Small Drum Corps Association, and performing as an Arena Drum Corps, a recent development in the art of Drum Corps. Arena corps rehearse and perform indoors, usually on basketball courts but they also perform anywhere a field corps can.

But without the Texas summer heat and humidity.

FPAA will also be working to develop a state-wide competition circuit for Arena Drum Corps in Texas, and yes, we will be glad to include corps from other states - it wouldn't be Texas if we weren't neighborly.

We値l be having an interest meeting on Saturday, September 26th. More information about the meeting and the corps is available on the Corps Website.

It痴 hot in the South. 42 and FPAA are looking to make it hotter. Ya値l come on down!

The "I Am (fill in the blank)" Thread

They have one on DCP, and one on Renegades forum.

This is the official "I Am (fill in the blank)" thread, MORE fun than the Name Game, MORE fun than........well, FUN!

Here's how it works:

You preface your statement by saying "I am", and then..........well, here are a few examples:

"I am bored here at work"

"I am feeling bad about not having perfected my drill"

"I am hung over"

"I am measuring a warm shoe by the light of the full moon"

"I am getting married!"

"I am announcing that I got a job!"

"I am wondering how much ass we're going to kick this Thursday in Dallas"

TOTALLY FUN thread, and I'll be starting with the inaugural "I am" post in the NEXT post!

The legendary party returns for a 4th year, continuing our tradition of celebrating St. Patricks Day around a couple of ice-cold kegs of Killian's Irish Red!

When:
Saturday, March 14, 4:00PM - ?? AM
Highland Village, TX 75077

We will tap the first keg around 4pm, and the party will continue until the early morning hours so just come on by whenever. Planned activities include beer pong, poker, karaoke, guitar hero, and new for '09, a Guiness chugging contest! The beer (and the always popular green jello shots) will be provided, as well as some non-alcoholic beverages for the designated drivers and the underage. We will probably grill some burgers and brats or order pizza at some point during the evening. Feel free to bring some snack items if you want, but it is not absolutely necessary.

Don't forget to bring a swimsuit if you want to use the hot tub (or at least wait until dark to jump in naked!) And as always, make sure you WEAR SOMETHING GREEN or we reserve the right to hold you down and spray-paint your hair green upon arrival. You have been warned!
